HI FROM TEXAS
Hi Red and Terri,

We are the couple that adopted your black/white Shih-Tzu pup.  We made it across the border just fine and she now is a happy/healthy puppy in East Texas.  We took her to the vet the first day we returned.  She received her first puppy shot and deworm again and the vet said she check out healthy.  Did a parvo test and worm test and none showed up !   We named her Chika Bonita.  “Chika”

I know you told us, but again which was her mother and which was her father.  i.e. (breed, size and color).  Also too, do you know if she is considered a first or second generation.     Did either of them have the long hair?  She seems to be getting the longer hair, but not sure if she will look like the Shih-Tzu.   Ears seem to be turning down like a Shih-Tzu and tail curling up.

Thanks again for what you are doing for the dogs in Puerto Penasco.  That does take special people.  My husband sister who lives in Phoenix said she would bring you a bag of dog food the next time they are down.  They go there pretty often.  Did Chikas sister and white brother find a home?
Will send you pictures now and then so you can see how she is doing.

Never told you our names:

Testimonials
OK Here is my testimonial for you…

A year ago, a friend of mine found an abandoned tiny puppy on the street.  She had been injured and to this day has a limpy,  little  bad paw.  My friend knew we were looking for a watchdog for our property.  So she brought her over and for whatever reason, I (not particularly a dog lover) fell in love with her sad little face…and we took her in and named her Grommit (from the English claymation show “Wallace and Grommit”).

But Grommit seemed so lonely!  No girlfriends to gossip with… or exchange stories with about the cute boy-dogs in the neighborhood (who she could see thru the fence).  What to do…??

Then we saw BeeBee at the Puppy Rescue.  She just looked like the perfect best friend for lonely Grommit.  But me, being a bit  indecisive, had to come back and see her several times.  Finally, she gave me that look one day and we piled her in the back of the jeep and brought her home to stay.  We had to change her name to GiGi (I don’t think she noticed…she just thinks we talk funny).  Gigi missed out on a big adventure of moving to the states.  But she has a home here in Penasco and now Grommit has a best friend!

Grommit and Gigi - I like to think they are kindred spirits, best of friends and  buddies for life as they stand at my front fence gossiping about the neighbor dogs….

Thanks Terri!

TIMEX AND ROCKY
Red and Terri,

First off let me apologize for being so late in getting you an update, we have been very busy getting everyone settled in.  Timex did get car sick on the way home but once he had everything out of his system he slept the duration of the trip.  (We took your advice and had a bag handy)!  Rocky (Desert Girl you called her) did great just got a little concerned when Timex got sick - she stayed close to him until she knew he was okay.  We got home and introduced everyone to Brewtus our 150 pound White Lab and to Nash our little miniature Dachshund.   Each day they all get along better and better.  You should see Timex and Brewtus play together - it is awesome!  They are having a blast!  Rocky and Nash hit it off although she really prefers getting playtime in with the big boys!  They are great with her and include her in their playtime too.  You should see how gentle they are with her.  She is definitely going to rule the roost with all of the boys!

Timex and Nash sleep in with William and Rocky is in a kennel at nighttime being crate trained and she is doing really well so she will be graduating to Meghans bed real soon.  Meghan slept on the floor with her the first couple of nights in front of the kennel so she knew she was not alone.  She goes right in her kennel now and no more whining.  She has had only had a couple of accidents in the house.  It has taken us a couple of days to get Timex used to going up and down the stairs - he had to be carried the first couple of days and now you should see him go up and down!  He has done awesome!   I cannot begin to tell you how wonderful all of the guys (and girl) are getting along and Timex gets more comfortable each day.  It is such a pleasure to see him relax and be able to enjoy himself.  Chewing on bones, eating and getting more playful each  day.   NO kennel for Timex he has done great with the house training.  I think we got two of the most wonderful dogs from you and thank you soooo much for all of your LOVE and hard work in getting them prepared to become members of a loving family.  I will get you pictures as soon as possible and you will definitely be seeing us our next trip.  Again, thank you and it was a joy meeting you both and we will keep you updated.

Sincerely,

The Currans

DOLORES

Hi Red and Terri from Colorado Springs from Stanley and Bozena.  Dolores, her new name, is doing great, she is healthy and funny.  Thanks for the great job you guys are doing there in Mexico.  We will stop by and see how you are doing the next time we come to Puerto Penasco.
"Roscoe"

Hi there,

Just an update on Dozer, now named Roscoe.  He was great from the beginning.  He is almost potty trained, which was easy as you said, Terri.

We took him to the vet in San Luis just to make sure he is all ok.  He had a cough and had started to itch.  The vet said that he has kennel cough and the beginning of mange.  He has to go thru a series of 7 shots, one a week.  As for the kennel cough, he is on antibiotics and cough medicine.
He needed some more shots, but cant get them until he is better.  It sure has not stopped him.  He learns things so fast.  He still likes rocks, twigs, and anything he can get into his mouth.

He is so great, we are sure lucky we found you and the job you are doing.
Thanks again

UPDATE ON ZIGGY AND LUCKY

Hi Guys!

Hope you all are doing well and staying cool   I have been meaning to let you know how everyone is doing; since we have been back in AZ.  FINALLY I am sitting down to email!

Having fostered both pups for 2 weeks prior to the School Fundraiser/Auction…we ultimately felt ZIGGY was the best candidate for the basket (at that time)…Lucky was a bit slow at putting on weight, even though she was eating ultimate Gourmet Caesars puppy food!!

Needless to say the ZIG MAN was a BIG Hit!!  Approximately 800 kids came thru the day prior to the actual event and petted, oooo’d and ahhhh’d at him.  He licked and loved every last one of them!!!  And for hours on end! And without incident! Can you believe it?  By the next day, when the Spring Spectacular started he was known across campus, and on a first name basis.  Tshirts were worn with
I ♥ Ziggy and Ziggy Rocks!  Etc.

In the end a family bid $325 for him and when their young daughter found out they were the winners…her eyes were welled up with tears of joy!!  I wish you could have seen her.  I know I will NEVER forget that look.  We can all have comfort in knowing that ZIGGY is LOVED and will be very welled cared for!!   (Even though I really MISS him)

I swear just since the event on Friday…Miss LUCKY has grown BIG!!!  No more Ceasars for her!  Frankly out of our budget…HAHA  But she IS thriving and has lots of energy, as I am sure you can relate to in your casa…and she is AS CUTE AS EVER!!  Her longterm future is still TBD…as the Big Dog (my husband) still doesn’t think we should take on another animal.  We did just get 2 horses a few weeks before we brought these pups home.  Regardless, rest assured that she will be taken care of no matter where she finally “calls home”.

I printed up a bunch of cards with your contact info displayed with a poster at the auction and I carry them with me everywhere we’ve taken the pup’s, baseball games, park, etc.  And from the feedback I’ve gotten I am confident that whenever folks come down to RP…they will be looking you up.
Thank you for the work you do, it must be a calling from above.  God bless you and thank you again for your generous donation.

Hope to see you soon!

Blessings,
Lisa

Cookie's trip to her new home

Hi Red and Terri,

I had to let you know what a joy "little girl" is! She shared mine and my son's lap on the way home and is the best little traveler! We
stopped in El Centro where she explored the grass outside Sonic and I cheated and gave her a few morsels of hamburger which she went bananas for!!!! And she didn't get sick, thank goodness.

When we got home, I put a tiny collar on her then brought her to the grass on the other side of the fence from my dogs. She was scared and they were excited, but everyone was curious and well behaved through the little fence. Then all dogs were put on leashes and we walked around the property as one happy pack! Cookie fell into the leash walking REALLY quickly and wanted to be right by the others.

After the walk to re-establish the pack, they went off the leashes and under careful and calm supervision, did what dogs do best and smelled each others butts for a very long time!!! My dogs right away wanted to play with her and accepted her much more quickly than I expected. They are in the house now and Cookie is already a part of the family and the dogs welcomed her onto their big doggie bed in my room!!!

Jonathan (my son) wants to call her Waffles, and Peter (husband) calls her Penasca. Peter has nicknames for two of the dogs, calling the dachshund "hot dog" and our female jack russel mix "cat dog". Now he's calling Cookie "rat dog", so we have "hot dog", "cat dog" and "rat dog"! (He LOVES her!)

She is on my lap right now and says "hola"!

Thank you so much for what you are doing. I took some pictures in the car and a few here, but want to get more tomorrow. Then I will send you the best of the bunch.

Your website is great! Again, from the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU for your dedication to a wonderful cause!

Update on "Rocky" from the Goldie family

Hi Red and Terri,

We have to thank you again for doing what you do, specifically saving our precious girl, Penny. We have since changed her name since we have had her home for one week and are quickly learning her personality. Penny, short for Penasco, is essentially the same as Rocky, her original name, but in "Spanish"! It is more girly and fits her personality well. We have attached some photos of her and her new brother Keno (German shepherd). They had a smooth introduction and are very playful with each other. She has attempted several times to clean Keno's teeth like she did back with you guys and all of her friends but Keno isn't too sure about it! Her drive home to Phoenix with us was interesting! She was pretty out of it--she had a big day! She got her last vaccine right before she got in the car and on top of that leaving everything she knew and being with strangers made her a little sick. She threw up a few times but it was nothing we couldn't handle. But when we were 30 minutes from home she couldn't help it anymore and pooped all over the back seat and our daughter (whom she bonded with and is very close with now!) Penny is loving all of the comforts we are spoiling her with--she gets to sleep on warm cushy couches, gets to run around with her friend in a big grassy backyard and she is eating like a queen! We will keep in touch and send more pictures as she grows!

Thank you again for all you do!

HELLO FROM THE WINNS!!

Red and Terri,
Thank you so much for what you are doing down there in Mexico. When we first walked by and had to say no, the whole family was devastated. We all got in the car and our wonderful 4 day Mexico adventure had been absolutely shattered. Walking away without one of your beautiful puppies in need of good homes, we all were pretty much in tears. So as we drove around the city for the next 20 minutes preparing to leave, we just couldn't bring ourselves to do it! We turned around, found an ATM and came back to you. Now even after less than a week we couldn't imagine life without our little "Ninja". She is already becoming more playful, learning to walk very well on a leash/collar, and CAN EVEN SIT on command! The best part is knowing that we were able to adopt her from somewhere that, in our opinion, has a more immediate need for saving. You take amazing care of the pups and it shows in how loving and loyal a member of our family as she has already become. I have linked here our photo album on Facebook of Ninja's pictures if you want to check in on her from time to time. Our little Emily still remembers the other pup that she loved but couldn't take home, we hope she also finds a loving home!

Thanking you and thinking of you!

Jamie, Adam, Emily and now Ninja!
